I started my first year at college during the first year of his term. On campus, the reactionary, conservative politics of many of my high school classmates were gone, substituted primarily with the politics of the suburbs, which I found confusing, but soon felt lulled into a false sense of security. If Iâd been back home, I probably wouldâve spent a lot of time defending Obama, but there was no need in a reliably blue college town. So I canât stop resisting, no matter who is in the White House, whether itâs Biden or Trump, Ted Cruz or Kamala Harris, Tom Cotton or Pete Buttigieg. Because the power of the state is not my comrade. If itâs possible, I think it should be harnessed to actually help people survive, not kill them. But I do not owe it a pledge of allegiance. Instead, I pledge my allegiance to the movements seeking the better world I know ispossible but not inevitable â could do such a thing to children in need, others of us are less surprised. from Bidenâs defenders was just a taste of what may yet come. I worry that the #Resistance, a potent force in rejecting Trump, may lose interest in resisting, although the systems that produced Trump are still in place. Itâs a fear grounded in what I myself experienced the last time a Democrat replaced a Republican in the White House.
