It’s hard to argue with the premise that North Korea is provocative, but a steady hand on policy is what is needed now. The United States and Russia (then the Soviet Union) managed to avert numerous crises during the Cold War, but this required talking to each other and the understanding that no one wins a nuclear war. Although the Cold War between the United States and Russia ended 25 years ago, that doesn’t mean that America’s nuclear nightmares are over. North Korea’s nuclear weapons program didn’t develop overnight, nor will it disappear overnight.
