I think it really was a huge thing and in so many different ways. I think Providence Rhode Island, in the '70s and '80s when I was growing up there, was a pretty interesting place. It was a place where I, at least in the neighborhood that I lived in, encountered so many people from really different backgrounds than my own. In terms of people who had immigrated recently from other countries, people who had racial and ethnic backgrounds different than mine, people who had different spiritual beliefs and religions, and also people who occupied really different economic brackets than my parents. I also grew up in a neighborhood where there were a lot of educators of different types, so I think that was a really influential thing. My mom’s of Italian and German heritage but she was raised in the Middle East and my dad’s a professor so I think that combination of having a family that really valued a connection between different cultures, and then being in an environment where I experienced that in a really natural way was a really big part of how I started to think about the world and start to look at what felt important to me about the world and then, of course, that filtered into my life as a creative person. I also think that Providence was an interesting place too. It had an arts school and a number of colleges and then also a really vibrant creative life. It was a city, which especially when I was a kid, was totally broke, was run by the mob, and there wasn’t a lot to do and I think most people across the board tended to entertain themselves by some kind of creative activity… I feel like I grew up in a very creative environment. So much of what has been important to me about being an artist got forged in that crucible of directly where I grew up as a kid.”TV golden state warriors hoodie The movement is one of transcendence. It’s a conversation starter about racial equality and equity. It’s a verb that invokes action and calls for change. “Land back came from the ceremonies,” Tilsen explains. “[It] came from the art, the culture, and spirits of the people.... Land back is something that anybody and everybody has an opportunity to be a part of no matter where you stand politically, no matter what you believe in the world or what your knowledge is, because it touches every aspect of our lives.”In short, says Tilsen, “It’s marching orders.”Want more fromTeen Vogue? He began playing the violin at age four, later teaching himself to play guitar and beginning to write his own songs. After high school, he left Pittsburgh to study music technology at NYU, opening up a world of music and creativity. He started the folk-leaning band Noble Hunter with friends from school, but continued to write songs on his own, that eventually led to his solo project. After signing with Roc Nation, he released his first single, "Control," last November—a hauntingly beautiful, stripped down track that showcases his emotive voice and soul stirring lyrical capabilities. He’s since toured with fellow crooner James Vincent McMorrow, made fans out of pop sensationsKaty PerryandSam Smith golden state warriors hoodie "I just released the EP a month ago, so April was a really fun, really exciting month. I’d been working on those songs for the past few years off and on, with the exception of ’Control’, which I wrote when, I was 17. So I was really excited to get it out there and have people hear it. For me, the biggest thing with my songwriting and performance is that once I release a song, it’s not for me anymore. I want people to take from it whatever it means to them. That’s why I just really want to keep playing and performing. And I’m always writing, the album is pretty much written, but I just need some time to reflect on everything and just evaluate. It’ll just be a matter of me kind of locking myself in my room to work on it and really get it all down. But right now I just want to keep playing."WHO IS KEVIN GARRETT: golden state warriors hoodie
