Absolutely. I think it felt for me that sometimes people took the fact that I wasn’t just focusing on one particular genre as being unfocused or disjointed or lacking direction, which wasn’t the case. Or at least that’s not how I felt. I just felt like I could create all of the things I wanted to create, but that shouldn’t be an issue for people as far as what kind of music it is. I think there became times where I would push back against people’s idea of what they wanted me to be. That wasn’t necessarily always good, but such a big part of my learning process I think.TV fz on road It was singing for me. That’s my love. I’m an artist. I fell in love with singing, and through singing, I learned how to write songs. Anything you’re consistent with and that you do all the time, you’re gonna reap benefits off it at one point. You’re not gonna get worse! That point where Rihanna came in, that whole point — and I don’t want to say necessarily that person, because I’d written songs for a bunch of different people prior to that point — but once I’d reached that point, I’d already been doing it for 19 years every day. fz on road Certain people respond to different stories and different rhetorical approaches. And in general, the story's too big to tell in any one way, so everybody shouldn't saying things exactly the same way. But when I looked back at the history of environmental activism, I saw a lot of instances where fear was quite powerful and effective. And that’s the story of my awakening. A few years ago, I would not have described myself as an environmentalist. And now I'm awakened and mobilized because of fear. fz on road That it’s a lot harder than it looks and it only gets harder. When you put out a first album and you’re a newer artist on the scene it’s almost like the easiest time because people are excited about new things. When you’re already established and not new anymore it becomes a whole other discussion of “where do we go from here?” And artists are very disposable nowadays, especially with streaming and people consuming music at such a quicker rate than ever before.
