"It’s been such an amazing thing to be embraced by so many people," she tells me on the phone from LAX. "There’s always a fear that people won’t understand you or get your music, but the reaction has been so great." After listening to the track, it’s easy to see why. Her lyrics paint a picture we’ve all experienced: you’re at party, you have no idea why you went in the first place, and you’d rather be anywhere else. I just want people to know—especially young people, but really everyone—that you don’t have to be so caught up in what everyone else is thinking. You don’t have to be the coolest, most popular person. You can just be you and be vulnerable. I think that my music communicates that in a way that isn’t overly dramatic or too convoluted. I just try to tell my stories in a way that is still light-hearted and fun to listen to, I’m not trying to bash you over the head with what I have to say. It’s youthful, but it’s real—it’s music that I would want to hear as a young girl and as someone who’s going through these things." muddyfox araya but the verdict is out on when their relationship began.
