(Crown), opens on two high schoolers in the western Irish town of Carricklea. Connell is the working-class but popular son of a single mother who works as a housekeeper for the mother of Marianne, the school’s defiant, intellectual, and wealthy outcast. At first, they’re not friends, exactly, even though they see each other daily, because Connell is worried what everyone will think. He continues worrying about this even after they become friends and lovers, to the point that it breaks them apart. This isn’t the first or last time they’ll get together and then split. This on-and-off, Ross-and-Rachel love story comes to define both the novel and their young lives; as the characters grapple with what it is they’re feeling, what they really want, and what they expect, the story seems to ask the questions: What is love, nowadays? What was it ever, anyway? watch companies logo âThe trend that Cynthia started is that we're not going to accept this anymore,â Aboushi says.
