Unfortunately a few years ago my best friend was the "needy" kind. She wanted me next to her all the time and she didn’t really like anyone else, so we always had to hang out — just the two of us. She was special and interesting, so for a while, I just let her run my schedule. But it became draining… pretty much an emotional ball and chain. One day I decided not to play her game and I told her to give me some space. She didn’t seem to listen and nothing changed, so eventually I made myself less available to her requests.
