As a queer trans womxn, I have a totally different lived experience than my best friend. With her layers of cis heterosexual privilege, she could have easily turned a blind eye to the injustices I face every day, but Kat has never done that. Instead, she has the uncomfortable conversations with her peers, she educates herself tirelessly, but most importantly, she listens to the voices that go unheard all too often. Working on Kat’s campaign was the privilege of a lifetime. Because of Kat, a movement in our state of Rhode Island has been created, one dedicated to passing the mic to youth organizers, trans people, and marginalized candidates. I am lucky to call her my family, to have worked on her campaign, and to live in a city that will go on to elect such a fearless leader as one of our next city councilors. Here is to more and more young womxn running for office across the country. Here is to more best friends working together in perfect duality to bring a shared vision to life. And here is to a continuation of smashing the patriarchal boys club that says it impossible for bubbly, excited, and femme womxn to be elected. The tides are turning, and the millennial womxn and femmes are stepping onto the shore.Get the Teen Vogue Take.Sign up for theTeen Vogueweekly email.Related:Why Young People Should VoteCheck this out: minnetonka cally some of the actors who play your favorite citizens of the Seven Kingdoms earn up to £2 million (more than $2.5 million in U.S. dollars)per episode, minnetonka cally Michelle Obama's entire appearance on the late-night show was filled with emotional moments from hersurprising her supporters minnetonka cally Not everyone is buying the assertion that hackers were afoot. “did u get hacked and they mass deleted ur tweets or u???” one person asked. “I have to give it to you this is the most confusing apology i’ve ever seen,”another wroteTwitter contentView on TwitterWith every twist, turn and false A-larm,Pretty Little Liars minnetonka cally
