As a queer teenager of color, there weren’t a lot of public spaces I could occupy comfortably and with total emotional honesty. My 2010 Warped Tour had me thinking about this for the very first time, simply because I’d never been around so many people who so enthusiastically praised inclusiveness and individuality. No one looked uncomfortable at Warped Tour. It was a place where most people could be totally and unapologetically themselves. I met fellow black and brown kids my age dressed in exciting colors and form-fitting outfits, there to rock out with their favorite bands.
