As I walked home from my haircut, I thought about his death and the fact that I now had five friends who died because of gun violence. They became a statistic; they got taken too early, and it’s not fair. My mind was preoccupied with those thoughts, so when my ears got cold I put my hood up without thinking twice. Looking back, I realize that may have made me a target. I soon got the feeling that someone was coming up on me and when I looked back, I got hit with the front end of a gun. I almost lost consciousness, but as I felt like everything had turned sideways, I knew what I got hit with and I knew it was time to run for my life. While I was running, I heard him take a couple of shots and felt a sharp pain in my leg. Luckily, they knew what to do. My dad put my leg up, my sister put pressure on the wound, and called 911. Why me? I thought. Why is this happening to me? I’m a good person. I’m not involved with any of this. At least, I figured, I was lucky enough that he didn’t take my life. af1 hi released on October 29 out of the Institute of Politics and Harvard’s Kennedy School of Government, 40% of 18- to 29-year-olds plan to “definitely vote,” which would double the 2014 results. As reported byTime af1 hi When criticism first sparked about the photo of Amandla and her costar George MacKay, director Amma Asante addressed the controversy [on Instagram](https://www.instagram.com/p/BQYHATqAaP_/]. My passion has been to shine a light on the existence of the children of color who were born and raised under Hitler ... Amandla and I teamed together to shine a light on the hatred that Nazi Germany visited on Europe and to make a film that might contribute to the dialogue of how we fight this horrific racial and religious ignorance today along with the intolerances visited on the many other marginalized groups and intersections."Twitter contentView on TwitterTwitter contentView on TwitterTwitter contentView on TwitterLet us slide into your DMs.Sign up for theTeen Voguedaily emailWant more fromTeen Vogue?
